RAWALPINDI: In one of its major reshuffling, The Pakistan Army on Thursady has replaced Major General Babar Iftikhar with Major General Asif Ghafoor as the new Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
On the other hand, Maj Gen Ghafoor has been transferred to the 40th Infantry Division of Pakistan Army in Okara as the General Officer Commanding (GOC).
In his last message from his personal twitter handle, the departing DG ISPR said, “Alhamdulillah, thanks to everyone I have remained associated with during the tenure, especially, to Media all across. I’m speechless to thank fellow Pakistanis for their love and support.” He had headed the military’s media wing since December 2016. He also expressed best wishes to new DG ISPR for his success.
According to ISPR, the new coming Major General Babar Iftikhar was commissioned in Pakistan Army in 1990. He is a graduate of NDU Islamabad. Later on, taught as faculty member there.
The new DG ISPR is also graduate from the Royal Jordanian Command and Staff College. Iftikhar performed duties in Pakistan Military Academy and National Defence University.
He studied from the Quetta Law College and had commanded Armed Division before assuming the position of DG-ISPR.
Apart from teaching at the NDU, Babar also taught at the Pakistan Military Academy.
The ISPR said Maj Gen Iftikhar has vast experience in command, staff and instruction. He also served as a brigade major and brigade staff for an infantry division in North Waziristan.
During operation Zarb-e-Azb, Maj Gen Iftikhar also commanded the armoured and infantry brigades.
