ISLAMABAD: Senior lawyer and former head of prosecution team against Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf in a treason case Akram Sheikh was robbed on Friday night, police said.
Sheikh who has been appearing in Talk shows regularly and supporting the Special Court’s decision, in which Gen Musharraf was awarded a death sentence. However, on Friday night, his farmhouse was robbed by an armed man and held his family hostage for two hours.
Well- placed sources told PENOG that robbers were asking for a copy of First Information Report FIR, when Gen Musharraf imposed emergency on November 3, 2007.
SP Malik Naeem told PENOG that Sheikh’s farmhouse is located in Islamabad’s Chak Shehzad. “They locked the family in a room at gunpoint and grabbed their mobile phones so that they couldn’t call for help,” Naeem told the scribe. According to him, Mr Sheikh was at the farmhouse at the time of the robbery. Police has yet to register a case.
Sheikh was appointed a prosecutor by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to fight the Musharraf treason case on behalf of the government. He fought the case till 2018 when the PTI government came in and he resigned.
